FDA Approves Skinvive by Juvéderm for Reducing Neck Lines in Adults
Allergan Aesthetics Receives New FDA Approval for Skinvive by Juvéderm
Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, has announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Skinvive by Juvéderm for reducing neck lines and improving the appearance of the neck in adults aged 21 years and older.
The approval marks an important milestone for the product, expanding its use beyond facial skin treatments and bringing a new option to people looking to address visible neck wrinkles.
First Hyaluronic Acid Injectable Approved for Neck Lines
According to the company, Skinvive by Juvéderm is now the first and only hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable approved specifically to reduce the appearance of neck wrinkles while helping the skin retain its natural moisture.
The treatment is designed to improve overall neck appearance by enhancing skin smoothness, softness, and hydration. By helping the skin maintain moisture, the injectable aims to reduce the visibility of horizontal neck lines that commonly develop over time.
Addressing the Growing Concern of "Tech-Neck"
Neck wrinkles can develop for several reasons, including natural aging, sun exposure, and weight loss. However, one increasingly common cause is what many people refer to as "tech-neck."
Tech-neck is associated with repeatedly looking down at smartphones, tablets, laptops, and books for extended periods. This constant downward head position can contribute to the formation of horizontal lines across the neck.
Skinvive by Juvéderm is intended to improve these lines by supporting the skin's natural moisture levels and enhancing overall skin quality.
Minimally Invasive Treatment With Limited Downtime
The treatment is administered using an ultrafine needle or cannula and is considered minimally invasive. Patients typically experience little to no downtime following the procedure.
The product also contains a small amount of lidocaine, a local anesthetic that helps improve patient comfort during the injection process.
This combination of convenience and minimally invasive administration may appeal to adults seeking aesthetic treatments that fit into their daily routines.
AbbVie Highlights Expansion of Aesthetic Treatment Options
Darin Messina, Senior Vice President of Aesthetics Research and Development at AbbVie, said the approval reflects Allergan Aesthetics' focus on developing science-based innovations that address unmet needs in aesthetic medicine.
He noted that the approval expands the company's portfolio of lower-face and neck treatment options while offering patients and healthcare providers a first-of-its-kind injectable solution designed specifically for improving neck skin quality and reducing the appearance of neck lines.
Provider Training Required Before Commercial Launch
As part of the approval process, the FDA has required Allergan Aesthetics to establish a training program for healthcare providers interested in offering the treatment.
Providers must successfully complete the training program before they can purchase or administer Skinvive by Juvéderm for neck-line treatment. The requirement is intended to support proper product use and patient safety.
Allergan Aesthetics expects the treatment to become broadly available across the United States later this year following the rollout of the provider training program.
Expanding the Role of Skinvive by Juvéderm
The latest approval adds a new indication to Skinvive by Juvéderm's growing aesthetic portfolio. By targeting neck lines caused by aging, environmental factors, and increased screen use, the treatment provides another option for adults seeking non-surgical approaches to improving skin appearance.
The approval also reflects growing interest in aesthetic treatments that focus not only on the face but also on commonly overlooked areas such as the neck, where signs of aging can become increasingly visible over time.
